STAND DOWN Vet Event

Imagine for a minute, being 18 years old.  You have your whole life ahead of you, the possibilities are endless.  You got decent grades in high school, you had some cool friends, maybe you were on some clubs or sports teams – nothing significant enough happened to where your career path would be hindered.  But you want something big for yourself.  You don’t want to have that 9-5, 5 day a week, desk job.  No, you want to serve others, you want to make a difference in this world.  So, what do you do?  You enlist in the military.

This is an admirable path to walk towards.  You will be put through some of the toughest training a person can go through, with some of the most challenging conditions – but you will be doing it for a cause.  You will be doing it for your country – and we salute you.

But being a soldier is so much more than training and tough conditions.  Being a soldier sometimes means going to war; especially in recent years.  Yes, this is the purpose of a military leader, but we all hope that it will never happen.  But it does.  And things that happen during war are unimaginable.  Things happen, decisions must be made, and these are not easy things to deal with – especially when you are finally done and get to go home.

Sometimes going home is the hardest part.  Your friends and loved ones have NO idea what you went through.  The things that you have seen and done – it’s not something that is discussed even to the closest of people.  This is where life becomes real.  You start keeping your distance from others, life begins to feel heavy, you need a way to deal with all the emotions and thoughts that are filling every minute of your existence.

This is where alcohol, drugs, anything that will numb what you are feeling, begins to call out to you.  There is no stopping now, this ball of mixed up emotions is only going to keep on rolling.  You need help, you know this, but what can you do?  Talking about it is just too painful, no one needs to know what you know, you can deal with it and keep it to yourself.  You feel hopeless, lost, confused, alone – all the things that you should never have to feel.

THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT.  You deserve better than this, you deserve to be taken care of, especially after what you have done for each and every one of us.  You do need help, and we will help you.  There are programs out there that want to help you and be there for you.  There are places to get help, to detox, to get your life back.

For example, there is an event coming up this week that is for every Veteran in this state – Maricopa County Stand Down located at the Arizona State Fair Grounds in Downtown Phoenix.  This event has everything that can help you get your life back:

We will also be there!  We are here to assist you through everything when it comes to a DUI.  If you have had a DUI and you haven’t completed all the steps, or if you just got a DUI and you have no idea what to do, we will help you.  You don’t have to do it alone, you don’t need to feel lost or helpless, you will get your life back.

Come to the event!  We would love to see you there!

If you are not a Vet but you know one, and pretty much everyone knows someone who is, then let them know about the event.  It is for all Vets, those who are in dire need and those who aren’t.  No matter who you are or what you are going through, this event is for you.
