It’s one minute to midnight. The countdown has begun – 60, 59, 58, 57. Everyone’s counting down with you – 49, 48, 47. The excitement is building – 36, 35, 34. All of your friends begin to gather around the tv – 29, 28, 27. That big, shiny, glorious ball is waiting to drop – 18, 17, 16. The anticipation of what the New Year will bring is all anyone can think of – 10, 9, 8. This is it, this is the year of you, the year that you will conquer this thing called life. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 – HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Up until this point it has been a celebration. A celebration of all that 2018 had to offer. For some it was a great year, for some it was a year of lessons, for others it was just another year. But it is coming to an end and a new, exciting, unknown year is about to take its place. All of that is just cause to celebrate as hard as you can and to really go out with a bang! Your friends and family are with you, after all you did just share the last 365 days with them, with all the ups and downs and in-betweens. It is their celebration as much as yours.
There’s champagne popping, beer flowing, wine – both red and white – and the cocktails are as tasty as ever. It wouldn’t be a celebration without them. This is the ultimate moment of laughter, fun, excitement and joy. Christmas has come and gone but the bliss of this time of year has not passed, not yet. This is the night, the last night to truly indulge and enjoy yourself.
But this is also a time of reflection and looking forward from that reflection. Looking at your past in order to have the future be an even better version of what has already come and gone. If you have made mistakes this past year (which we all have) then now is the time to reflect on that and make a change for this next year.
The drinks have been flowing, the fun is still continuing. Sometimes it can be difficult to make that right choice when the euphoria of the night is taking hold. That’s why it is important to remember those options that are always waiting by ready to jump in and save your night.
Use Lyft, they would LOVE to come and pick you up – they are always there, waiting for that phone call that could possibly save your life. If you don’t want to do that, you don’t want their help, that is perfectly OK. Make sure that your keys are out of sight, out of mind before you even begin the night. Your friends and/or family would never want you to drive after such a great night. Sleep on their couch, on a pull-out bed, on an air mattress, whatever you can stretch out and pass out on, do it. Your life, and others lives, are more important than you not wanting to inconvenience those around you.
Choices can be difficult. This particular choice is not. It’s actually really quite simple – don’t drink and drive. And if you do, or if you have in the past, look towards the future and don’t repeat what has already been a mistake. We are here to help you in every aspect of a mistake made.
These things happen, we will make the process of it all better for you – no one should continue to be punished and beaten down by a decision that is now in the past. Unfortunately, the past is in the past. The only thing we can change is the future, that’s really the whole point of New Years. New year, new you, new beginning.
