For most of us, school is considered a mandatory, twelve-year, sentence. Sure, in the first years of elementary school we had fun – coloring, pasting, having exciting stories read to us, it was great. But as we got older things became more tedious and our lives were spent being more studious. There were fun times of course, but for the most part being anywhere else that did not have an uncomfortable desk and hard chair was what dreams were made of.
As kids we couldn’t wait to grow up. To have a car, a house, go to a bar and drink, all the things that “adults” get to do. Little did we know that growing up is not all that it’s cracked up to be; the responsibilities are endless. Especially when some of those responsibilities are given more responsibilities because they were not taken seriously – like the responsibility of having a driver’s license.
Fun Facts:
- When you are given a driver’s license you are automatically stating that you will follow all the laws of the road and you are agreeing to be held accountable for the Implied Consent Law.
- Implied Consent Law – accepting the privilege of driving or having a driver’s license and agreeing to not drive while intoxicated. If you are suspected of driving while intoxicated you must consent to a chemical test of your breath, blood, or urine to determine that you have alcohol or drugs in your system.
- If any of these test show that you are intoxicated (and depending on the location the legal limit may vary, but the legal limit in general is anything below .08%) then you will be charged with a DUI/DWI.
- If you are charged with a DUI/DWI then your driver’s license will be suspended, you will not be allowed to get it back until you complete few steps:
Back to School
Do you remember me talking about school and how much “fun” it was? Well that’s exactly what your first step is going to be – school. Alcohol screenings and classes are the first step you will need to go through in the long regaining process of your driver’s license and driving privileges.
Sitting in a desk, taking notes, watching informational videos, listening to lectures, reading, taking quizzes and tests – all the fun things that you have already put 12 long years of time into. You will need to complete at least 16 hours minimum of education in a classroom type setting. Remember those uncomfortable desks and hard chairs? Do you really want to do that again?
If you are having to do these screening classes it’s OK, you are on the right path to getting your life back. You will have to do a face to face interview that will be conducted by a behavioral health professional or technician. Based on the results gained from the screening agency you will be placed into the appropriate class to complete those hours. Then you will need to put in those 16+ hours.
Make sure you get to this first step ASAP. If you do, the cost will be less and the number of days your driver’s license will be suspended can be lessened from 60 to 30.
